Iran's FM holds talks with South African counterpart
Iran's Amirabdollahian meets with South African counterpart

New York, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a meeting with South African counterpart Naledi Pandor, said that Iran will return to the nuclear talks but will not tie its economy to them.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the 76th Conference of the UN General Assembly in New York City on Friday, Amirabdollahian in the meeting with his South African counterpart, thanked the President and the Government of South Africa for their congratulatory messages to the president and foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the relations between the two countries as very well and stating that there are no problems in relations between Iran and South Africa.

Referring to the history of the two countries' support for each other in international organizations, Amirabdollahian announced Iran's readiness to hold a joint economic commission meetings between Iran and South Africa.

Iranian foreign minister said that Tehran's foreign policy is a pragmatic, adding that Iran would return to the JCPOA talks but would not tie its economy to these talks and that Iran would do the same if the other parties of the deal returned to fulfilling their commitments.

The South African foreign minister for her term, congratulated Amirabdollahian on his appointment as Iranian foreign minister and stressed her country's interest in cooperating and expanding relations with Tehran.

Stating that excellent cooperation in the fields of science and technology has been formed between the two countries, Pandor said that during her visit to Iran, she had witnessed very good progress in various fields, especially in science and technology.

She mentioned mining and tourism as other areas for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

She went on to say that she was deeply concerned about the outcome of the nuclear talks, adding that the country wanted to lift sanctions against Iran.

She also said that her country calls for broader bilateral cooperation, as well as relations between the peoples of the two countries and bilateral cooperation in international organizations.
